Stewardship and Land Purchase Negotiation
Based in Kamieskroon / Springbok / Garies or surrounds
This position will be responsible for negotiation of new Stewardship Contracts and the negotiation of the purchase of land for conservation purposes. This position will also seek to provide professional management support for the new sites which contribute to critical habitat as outlined in the Leslie Hill Succulent Karoo Trust Priorities. The incumbent will form an important part of a multi-disciplinary team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Negotiation of four new Stewardship Contracts as prioritised by the Leslie Hill Succulent Karoo Trust
Negotiate the purchase of four properties on behalf of the Leslie Hill Succulent Karoo Trust
Assist in the Site Assessment and review of twelve possible properties
Development of stewardship agreements subsequent to successful negotiations
Preparation of management plans for the new conservation areas
Provide Management support and supply sound environmental land use advice to the landowners of the proposed new conservation areas
Implementation of the “Technical Assistance” projects related to each site which include priority management interventions as identified with the landowners
Assist in maintaining partnerships with relevant role-players in the area to support landscape-scale conservation initiatives
Assist in the presentation of “Skills Development Workshops” by the Project Team and other project related tasks
Overall management and administration related to the Negotiator post including financial and asset management
Manage relevant information systems and data pertinent to the Project
Prepare quarterly Project Reports and other reports as required
Share lessons and report on outcomes as required at relevant forums and meetings
REQUIREMENTS:
A formal three year qualification in the field of Natural Resource Management or Biodiversity Conservation.
At least three years of appropriate experience
A valid 08 driver’s license. Suitable vehicle and a willingness to drive extensively in the region
(Costs of travel to be reimbursed to incumbent)
Outstanding interpersonal and communicative skills in Afrikaans and English
Advanced computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, and Power Point. GIS will be an added advantage)
Physical fitness to perform assessments
Sound report writing and presentation skills
The ability to work unsupervised
High levels of personal responsibility and accountability
