Karen Kotschy

Karen has a background in ecology, geography and education, with a PhD in Riparian Ecology from the University of the Witwatersrand. She currently operates as an independent researcher and has 4 years of experience in monitoring and evaluating complex environmental programmes implemented at catchment or landscape scales.

Field of research: Karen is interested in complex social–ecological systems, resilience, biodiversity, water and natural resource management, social learning and social transformations. She is fascinated by the challenge of finding ways to effectively monitor, evaluate and nurture change in complex social–ecological systems through learning and participatory approaches.
