Applications are invited for the post of Graduate Intern for the African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI).

The ACDI is a strategic initiative at UCT that coordinates and enhances research and teaching on climate and climate change across departments and faculties. The main role of the Graduate Intern will be to work on a range of projects and activities in support of ACDI core staff and researchers, including research assistance, organisation of ACDI events and database maintenance. This is a full-time one-year contract position.

Minimum requirements:

• A minimum of an undergraduate degree in a subject relevant to ACDI activities and/or a qualification in a subject related to project management/administration.

• Excellent command of the English language

• Excellent Writing skills

• Computer literacy in Microsoft Word or similar

• Proven evidence of administrative and/or organisational skills

Advantageous experience:

• Honours in a subject relevant to ACDI activities

• A demonstrable interest in climate and development issues

• Research experience at an Honours level related to climate change

• Competency in another South African language

• Experience in events organization and management

• Ability to work independently, and as a part of a team

• Experience with database management and analysis

 

 Responsibilities: Under the guidance of the Research Coordinator and Research Officer, the successful candidate will be contributing to:

• Research assistance and support for various ACDI research projects as the need arises including: Literature reviews, collation of information, transcription of interviews etc.

• Assist with coordination and management of ACDI events

• Assist with fundraising as the need arises

• Maintaining and performing analysis on a number of databases in support of various ACDI activities including monitoring and evaluation, marketing and communications, fundraising.

 

The annual salary (CoE) offered for this position is in the range of R60 000- R84 000 per annum, depending on qualification level.
