1 Year Fixed term contract, 50% full time equivalent
The African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI) and Department of Environmental and Geographical Science (EGS) at the University of Cape Town is seeking to appoint a convenor/lecturer for the interdisciplinary MSC/MPhil in Climate Change and Sustainable Development, that is convened by the ACDI, and hosted academically by EGS.
The Lecturer/Convenor will teach on, and manage academic and administrative aspects of the MSc/MPhil, specifically, academic oversight of the students, teaching, and administrative tasks related to the ACDI MSc/MPhil. The post-holder will work closely with the graduate teaching coordination team in EGS and with the ACDI network to ensure that students are integrated into both EGS academic processes, as well as ACDI research and supervision opportunities.
This is a part-time (50%) one-year contract position at the Assistant Lecturer or Lecturer level.
Salary ranges (50% of full time cost of employment, 2016, subject to adjustment for 2017) are as follows: Assistant Lecturer: R 127,052-181,506; Lecturer: R 146,201-208,860.
Requirements:
- A PhD degree, or thesis submitted, in relevant subject related to climate change and/or development
- Experience of teaching and/or supervision of student projects at Honours and/or Masters level
Advantageous Experience:
- Experience in an academic administrative role
- Experience supervising postgraduate student research projects
- Teaching on climate change and/or development issues
- Demonstrated ability to produce high quality research publications
Responsibilities include:
- Course convening, departmental and faculty administrative duties
- Teaching and examining courses in the ACDI MSc/MPhil
- Supervising MSc/MPhil student dissertation
- MSc/MPhil student academic and pastoral monitoring and support
